Recently Felipe Cagno was nice enough to get hold of me and tell me about his Kickstarter project, 321: Fast Comics. Damn I’m glad he did.
The concept of 321 is simple. 3 pages, 2 characters, 1 twist. Various writers and artists take this idea and go from end to every end of ideas.
The graphic novel was originally published in Brazil and this Kickstarter will make it available to the world. I promise you that you have no idea how much talent there is inside of this book. I was blown away by page after page of some of the best work in comics today. These artists know how to use every panel and every line to move the story forward within the confines of 3 pages. While the trend for comics today is to spread out stories over at least 6 issues if not years, but these hungry creators come out swinging and leave every bit of blood and sweat out on the page.
I had so much fun trying to figure out the twist to the story before the end. Some were telegraphed earlier than others but some of the stories absolutely blew me away. Horror, and Steampunk, and Western and Humor. I would honestly give this book to anyone who hasn’t read comics before and say, “look! This is what comics can do! Isn’t it awesome!”
Just $5 can help make this project a reality. Its the last week of the Kickstarter and they are so close to goal. Great comics like this are what’s needed to take this art form to the next level. Supporting this project is supporting the future of comics.
